Prinz Gholam's 'Similitude' Performance at Punta della Dogana

Prinz Gholam, a German duo, presented their performance 'Similitude' at Punta della Dogana on October 13 and 14, 2018, as part of the exhibition 'Dancing with Myself' curated by Martin Bethenod and Florian Ebner (on view until December 16). The performance explores themes of representation, painting, and the body through a dialectic of presence, self, and loss. The duo, whose initial training was in painting, uses photography to appropriate artworks and later creates live performances. Their work features two living human beings, leaving no material trace, and engages with historical art references to negotiate between the painted body and the contemporary world. The title 'Similitude' reflects their drive toward similarity, which ultimately manifests difference and a lost continuity. Costumes by Katarzyna Bura/WF were inspired by Prinz Gholam's drawings.
