Princess Zelda Appears in Neapolitan Votive Niches for Comicon

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

During the Comicon festival in Naples, three votive niches appeared in the Rione Sanità, Fuorigrotta, and Centro Storico neighborhoods, featuring not saints or madonnas but Princess Zelda from Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series. The promotional initiative, created by Nintendo with artists Zeal Off and They Live, blends video game and religious imagery in a site-specific installation. The niches promote the upcoming release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a direct sequel to 2017's Breath of the Wild, which revolutionized the series with an open-world structure. Tears of the Kingdom continues this direction, encouraging experimentation with new powers that allow combining weapons and objects. The game will be available from May 12, 2023, for Nintendo Switch.
