Present & Correct launches imprint with debut book of pre-war Japanese tourist maps

London stationery shop Present & Correct has launched a publishing imprint, P&C Additions, with its first title: Paper Trails: Pre-war tourist maps from Japan. The book collects fifty illustrated maps co-founder Neal Whittington discovered in Tokyo's Jinbocho book town in 2024. Co-founded by graphic designers Neal Whittington and Mark Smith in 2009, the shop began as an online store from a tiny flat, later moving to a spare room and then to a physical location in 2012. In 2023, it opened a new store in Bloomsbury. The pair source vintage stationery from over 18 countries, foraging at markets in France, Germany, and Belgium, and through luck and research. Whittington's childhood habit of collecting sugar sachets, napkins, and postcards evolved into the shop's ethos. The imprint plans future editions, including a collection of mid-century Japanese lottery tickets and a European typography project. Whittington emphasizes that the shop's curation is instinctive, shaped by his design background, and that the joy of collecting drives the brand.
