Premio Giuseppe Šebesta for Anthropological Cinema Launches in Trentino

The first edition of the Premio Giuseppe Šebesta for anthropological cinema will take place from November 27 to 30, 2025, at the Museo etnografico trentino di San Michele all'Adige (METS). Named after Giuseppe Šebesta (1919–2005), an ethnographer, filmmaker, and founder of the museum, the award aims to merge anthropological research with creative audiovisual storytelling. A total of 1,987 works were submitted globally, including 781 feature and medium-length films, 1,186 short films, and 20 student works. A committee selected 26 films: 12 features/medium-length, 7 shorts, and 7 under-30 entries. The main jury is chaired by Martina Parenti and Massimo D'Anolfi, joined by Ivelise Perniola, Patrizia Quattrocchi, and Luca Ferrario. The youth section jury consists of students. Prizes include up to €3,000 for features/medium-length films and €1,500 for shorts, plus student awards. Public events include the youth winners announcement on November 28 at 6:30 PM and the main awards on November 29 at 5:00 PM. METS president Ezio Amistadi emphasized the award's role in bringing anthropological cinema to wider audiences.
