Premio Artisti per Frescobaldi 2018 Jury and Swiss Edition Announced

award · 2026-05-04

The fourth edition of the Premio Artisti per Frescobaldi, curated by Ludovico Pratesi and founded by Tiziana Frescobaldi, will focus on Switzerland. The jury includes Hans-Ulrich Obrist (director of Serpentine Gallery, London), Elena Filipovic (director of Kunsthalle Basel since 2014), and Andrea Viliani (director of Museo Madre, Naples since 2013). The award will be conferred in October 2018 at GAM – Galleria d’arte moderna di Milano. Three emerging artists working between painting and sculpture have been selected: Claudia Comte (born 1983, Grancy), Sonia Kacem (born 1985, Grancy), and Francesco Arena (born 1978, Torre Santa Susanna, Brindisi). Two are Swiss, one Italian. They visited the CastelGiocondo estate of Marchesi Frescobaldi in Montalcino (Siena), where Brunello has been produced since the 19th century, to create new works and artist labels for a special selection of 999 Magnum bottles (333 per artist). Proceeds from bottle sales will support an association promoting contemporary art; the wine is Brunello di Montalcino 2013 vintage. All nine works from previous editions are now permanently installed at CastelGiocondo and will be visitable from December via online booking. The collection includes works by Matthew Brannon, Patrizio di Massimo, Elisa Sighicelli, Rä di Martino, Giovanni Ozzola, Jorinde Voigt, Eric Wesley, Michael Sailstorfer, and Yuri Ancarani. A hospitality project with seven bedrooms is under development at the estate.
