Premiata Ditta's Profiles Cosenza: Drawing Social Portraits at BoCs Art

The BoCs Art residency in Cosenza, curated by Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, continues its program with sixteen artists in late June 2019. Among them, the duo Premiata Ditta (Vincenzo Chiarandà and Anna Stuart Tovini) created 'Profiles Cosenza,' a participatory project engaging local residents. Building on their 2018 work 'Profiles' on Graciosa Island (Azores), the artists visited homes, selected personal objects, and rendered them in black marker on glossy photo paper at over 2 meters tall. The drawings, titled with GPS coordinates, include captions detailing brand and place of manufacture, revealing consumer profiles and globalization's effects. The project culminated in an exhibition at the residency's finissage, where participants emotionally recognized their belongings. Premiata Ditta also founded the network UnDo.Net in 1995 with Emanuele Vecchia. A book of the Graciosa project, with texts from dialogues with islanders, will be published in Portuguese this summer and in Italian by Meltemi in January 2020.
