Preis der Nationalgalerie 2021 shortlist features four artists under 40

Nominated for the 2021 Preis der Nationalgalerie in Germany are Lamin Fofana, Calla Henkel & Max Pitegoff, Sandra Mujinga, and Sung Tieu. The exhibition will take place at Berlin's Hamburger Bahnhof from 16 September 2021 to 27 February 2022. On 7 October, the winner will be revealed, earning a solo exhibition and a publication. This biennial award honors artists under 40 in Germany, with previous recipients including Pauline Curnier Jardin, Agnieszka Polska, and Anne Imhof. A jury selected the finalists from a pool of 77 candidates, commending Fofana's focus on Black activism, Henkel and Pitegoff's urban studies, Mujinga's insights on placemaking, and Tieu's auditory investigations. Since its inception in 2000, the prize has collaborated with BMW for fifteen years.
