Precollinear Park: Torino's Abandoned Tram Line Becomes Creative Space

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

Torino Stratosferica, a nonprofit founded by Luca Ballarini of the Turin-based design and communication studio Bellissimo, has transformed an abandoned tram line into Precollinear Park, an 800-meter linear urban park. The project, active since 2014, emerged as a response to the first lockdown, converting a neglected and degraded space into a community green area. The park now features a seating system, a yellow container serving as an info point and bar, and has hosted cultural events including the exhibition 'Visioni da Torino Stratosferica' on the Regina Margherita bridge, presenting 40 visionary images of the city's future. The park connects four neighborhoods: Borgo Po, Madonna del Pilone, Vanchiglia, and Vanchiglietta, bridging natural and artificial barriers. A crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe aims to raise €3,000 for maintenance, events, and future developments such as a street art intervention, pop-up services, and outdoor concerts. As of the report, over €1,700 has been raised.
