PREAMAR Project Launches in Maranhão to Foster Local Art Scene Through Networked Initiatives

Launched in April 2022, the PREAMAR artistic initiative aims to elevate the visual arts in Maranhão, Brazil, through collaborative efforts. Spearheaded by Samantha Moreira, it includes partnerships with Chão SLZ, Casa do Sereio, Lima Galeria, and the Federal University of Maranhão. The inaugural cycle comprised artist residencies, virtual discussions, and a group exhibition curated by Frederico Silva, Yuri Logrado, Marco Lima, and Samantha Moreira. This exhibition featured works from Ceramistas de Itamatatiua and artists such as Cláudio Costa and Marlene Barros, showcased at Chão SLZ and Lima Galeria until June 3. Additionally, research conducted by Silvana Mendes and Tassila Custodes with the Itamatatiua community was shared. An online platform is set to be introduced in late 2022 for documentation and future shows.
