cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

Prato, renowned for having Europe's largest textile district, is leveraging its industrial legacy alongside modern art to draw in tourists via the TIPO (Turismo Industriale Prato) initiative. Beginning on September 28, 2024, a new series of guided tours will be available until February 2025, with a festival scheduled from March 27 to 30, 2025. This period will showcase special visits to operational factories and historic sites like the Meucci factory and Gualchiera di Coiano. Upcoming tours will focus on 'cenciaioli' craftsmanship and advanced textile production. Additionally, a complimentary TIPO app provides self-guided tours of industrial heritage locations, including the Bisenzio River route. Prato's cultural approach also encompasses the Centro per l'Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci and the Museo del Tessuto.
