Pratchaya Phinthong's Minimalist Exhibitions Challenge Interpretive Expectations

exhibition · 2026-04-20

The Singapore Art Museum is currently hosting Pratchaya Phinthong's solo exhibition titled No Patents on Ideas, which showcases six pieces within a dimly lit gallery. Notable works include Untitled (Singapore) (2014), featuring a video of a fighter jet, and Undrift (2024), which presents an animation of soaring banknotes. Additionally, the exhibition includes a worn cloth and WWII shrapnel sourced from the Changi Chapel and Museum, along with Sacrifice depth for breadth (2023), a flattened hornet's nest. Phinthong's artistic repertoire encompasses photography, sculpture, video, and installation. He has recently displayed his work at Barakat Contemporary in Seoul and is scheduled to exhibit at SCAI The Bathhouse in Tokyo, Bangkok City City Gallery, and Para Site in Hong Kong. The exhibition is open until 23 March, with another show at SCAI The Bathhouse continuing until 26 April.
