Prague Exhibition Uses Red Architecture to Convey North Korean Reality Beyond Photographs

B² Architecture has wrapped up an engaging exhibit called 'Life Behind the Walls' at Hall 13 in Prague's Holešovice Market, created in partnership with Korean studies specialist Nina Špitálníková. This installation showcases a striking red steel framework covered in red fabric, illustrating how the color red, significant in North Korean culture, can express life under a totalitarian regime more effectively than images alone. Visitors walk through a red grid featuring Michal Huniewicz's North Korean photos, which critique state imagery. There's also a kids' program based on Špitálníková's book 'Tota lítá' with interactive activities. A narrow hallway adorned with Tim Franco's border photos leads to a dim area with red textile columns depicting silhouettes, culminating in a statue of a leader facing away from the audience, looking at portraits of defectors. Completed in 2026, the exhibit includes design work by Lenka Volková and Sharp Objects, illustrations by Myokard, and photography by Radek Šrettr Úlehla.
