Prada's Largest Retrospective to Open at London's Design Museum in 2020
The Design Museum in London will host 'Prada. Front and Back' in September 2020, the largest retrospective ever dedicated to the Italian fashion house by a museum institution. The exhibition will explore Prada's creative approach, collections, and collaborations, focusing on both the public-facing 'Front' and the behind-the-scenes 'Back' infrastructure. Founded by Mario Prada in 1913 in Milan's Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, the brand was transformed by Miuccia Prada, who took over in 1977 and infused it with a distinctive style open to design, innovation, and contemporary creativity. She collaborated with architects like Rem Koolhaas and Herzog & de Meuron on store designs. Miuccia runs the company with her husband Patrizio Bertelli, CEO of the Prada Group. In 2015, they opened the new Fondazione Prada headquarters in Milan, designed by Koolhaas. The exhibition follows the October 2019 publication of 'Prada sfilate', a book with over 1,300 color images covering Miuccia Prada's work from the 1970s to today.
