Powerhouse Parramatta: Australia's Major New Museum Opening Late 2026

Set to launch in late 2026, Powerhouse Parramatta will be a prominent new museum in Western Sydney. The 30,000-square-metre facility, crafted by Franco–Japanese architects Moreau Kusunoki alongside local firm Genton, will feature interconnected galleries, educational spaces, and public areas. Situated on Dharug land, it seeks to showcase the cultural diversity of Parramatta. The museum will house seven galleries, digital studios, a cinema, a 600-seat theatre, a rooftop garden, and artist and researcher residential studios. The Lang Walker Family Academy will merge STEM education with cultural initiatives, while the Vitocco Family Kitchen will accommodate 200 for culinary demonstrations. Powerhouse Parramatta aims for net-zero emissions, achieving a 6 Star Green Star rating, and is part of a $1.4 billion AUD revitalization plan across Powerhouse locations, including Ultimo, Castle Hill, and Sydney Observatory. Chief Executive Lisa Havilah refers to it as a "new generation museum," marking it as Australia's most significant cultural infrastructure project since the Sydney Opera House.
