Poulomi Basu's Phantasmagoria exhibition opens at Fotomuseum Winterthur exploring feminist realities

exhibition · 2026-04-19

From 25 October to 15 February, Fotomuseum Winterthur is showcasing "Phantasmagoria," the inaugural institutional solo exhibition in Switzerland by Poulomi Basu. This exhibition encompasses six groups of works that span photography, film, virtual reality, and installation, highlighting women from the Global South and their bodies as battlegrounds for political and ideological conflicts. Born in Kolkata in 1983 and a graduate of the London College of Communication, Basu intertwines art with activism to confront issues such as gender-based violence. Notable projects include Centralia (2010–2020), Blood Speaks: A Ritual of Exile (2013–2018), and Sisters of the Moon (2022). Her ongoing exhibition, Always Coming Home, at Focal Point Gallery further delves into themes of memory and displacement politics.
