Poulomi Basu's 'Always Coming Home' transforms Focal Point Gallery into immersive transmedia exploration of displacement

The exhibition 'Always Coming Home' by Poulomi Basu will be held at Focal Point Gallery in Southend-on-Sea from 1 October 2025 until 3 January 2026. This immersive installation delves into themes of memory, imagination, and displacement through various mediums, including performance, photography, sculpture, sound, and moving images. In Gallery 1, a multichannel moving-image piece is showcased, while Gallery 2 features a combination of screens and sculptural works. Basu's exploration of exile and reclamation incorporates personal letters and found footage, set against dreamlike backdrops. Her art addresses power dynamics and trauma related to displacement, especially concerning brown bodies, while also highlighting themes of resilience and alienation. Interactive components encourage visitors to engage and reclaim marginalized voices.
