Pouchain's #EX_TRA Project Transforms Rome Scaffolding into Art
The #EX_TRA project by Gruppo Pouchain continues to turn Rome's historic center into a diffuse art space with three new large-scale billboards on Lungotevere Arnaldo da Brescia. The works are by Renato D'Agostin, Marcello Maugeri, and Sandro Sanna, and will also appear at Passeggiata di Ripetta, via dei Chiavari, Via Crescenzio, and other streets. D'Agostin's photograph 'Istanbul' (2013) captures a young man diving into the Bosporus during the Taksim Square protests, symbolizing freedom. Maugeri's site-specific 'Go Left' is a QR code-activated piece for the QRC_M multimedia container, engaging viewers interactively. Sanna's 'Gli altri colori della luna' (2006) uses three-dimensional painting to blur boundaries with surrounding architecture. Born during the pandemic, #EX_TRA (short for Latin 'Exempla Trahunt'—examples lead) aims to compensate for the lack of museum discourse by stimulating conversations through new media. The project is curated by Chiara Nicolini, directed by Claudio Presta, and presided over by Silvia Salama Pouchain. Each artwork includes a QR code for deeper engagement.
