Postmasters Gallery Opens Rome Outpost with Sally Smart Exhibition

Established in 1984, Postmasters Gallery, a prominent New York institution, launched its mobile branch, PostmastersROMA, on November 20, 2017. The opening exhibition showcases Australian artist Sally Smart (born 1960) and her ongoing work "The Choreography of Cutting," which delves into themes of female identity and the body through digitally rendered embroidery of Ballets Russes costumes, often crafted by notable artists such as Picasso, Sonia Delaunay, and Matisse. This exhibition is hosted at 1/9unosunove gallery within Palazzo Santacroce, adjacent to Lorcan O'Neill's venue, under the direction of Fabio Ianniello. Paulina Bebecka, previously co-director of Postmasters New York and now director at large of PostmastersROMA, spearheads the initiative, aiming to highlight the gallery's 34-year legacy through unique collaborations. Future exhibitions may appear in unconventional locations, including a former butcher shop or a secret palace room, and will feature artists new to the Rome scene, such as Eva and Franco Mattes and Chris Verene. The exhibition is set to conclude on December 2, 2017.
