Posthumous Lawrence Carroll Exhibition Opens in Cologne

Galerie Karsten Greve in Cologne is hosting 'Moments,' a posthumous solo exhibition of Lawrence Carroll, the US-born Australian artist who died on May 21, 2019. The show opened four days after his death and features works from the last five years, including previously unseen pieces. Carroll, represented by the gallery since 1999, was known for blending painting and sculpture, creating layered works that incorporate found objects like old shoes, painted flowers, bread, and scraps of fabric. His palette appears monochromatic at first but reveals subtle tones of beige, brown, blue, and yellow. The exhibition title reflects Carroll's interest in capturing decisive moments, as he once stated, 'I have been interested in the impossibility of holding the moment for a long time.' The show runs until August 31, 2019.
