Posthumous Exhibition Unites Cinzia Ruggeri and Birgit Jürgenssen at ICA Milano

exhibition · 2026-04-20

ICA Milano showcases 'Lonely Are All Bridges,' a collective exhibition featuring the late artists Cinzia Ruggeri (1942–2019) and Birgit Jürgenssen (1949–2003). Curated by Maurizio Cattelan and Marta Papini, the exhibition will be on display until 15 March 2025. Although they never met, both artists delved into themes of female identity and the body through various artistic forms. Jürgenssen is known for pieces such as 'Bed Shoes' (1974) and 'Housewives' Work' (1973), while Ruggeri created works like 'Shoe Stairs' (1976) and 'Oops, the Lost Glove' (2004). The exhibition critiques women's labor in the 1970s–80s, addressing motifs like staircases and shadows. A review will appear in the March 2025 edition of ArtReview.
