Pordenone unveils hidden art treasures from municipal deposits

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The exhibition 'Il sogno delle cose' at Galleria Civica Harry Bertoia in Pordenone, running until February 27, 2022, marks the first step of a cultural policy by the newly appointed city council. Curated by Alessandro Del Puppo and Luca Pietro Nicoletti, the show presents 130 works from the 19th and 20th centuries selected from over 2,200 pieces stored at Palazzo Ricchieri. Artists include Chagall, de Chirico, Picasso, Delvaux, Savinio, Fontana, De Pisis, Sironi, Vedova, Campigli, Guttuso, as well as local talents like Massimo Bottecchia, Nane Zavagno, Harry Bertoia, Massimo Poldelmengo, Roberto Kusterle, and Danilo Di Marco. The initiative, led by culture councillor Alberto Parigi, aims to revive hidden civic heritage and follows international trends like Rotterdam's Depot and MAXXI's open storage projects. The exhibition is organized into thematic sections covering myths, love, landscapes, still lifes, and portraits, with a catalogue published by Silvana Editoriale. A photographic commission by Alessandro Ruzzier documents the storage spaces. Future plans include rotating displays, collaborations with local entities, and a major exhibition in 2023. Pordenone also continues to support festivals such as PordenoneLegge, Dedica, PordenonePensa, and Le Giornate del Cinema Muto, alongside a concert series.
