Poppy Thekdi and Ajay Mehta's Oaxacan Wedding Blends Indian Heritage with Local Traditions

Over Valentine's weekend in 2026, Poppy Thekdi and Ajay Mehta tied the knot in Oaxaca City, merging their Indian roots with the region's traditions. The celebration spanned four days, featuring welcome drinks at Selva Bar, a tour of Monte Alban, a sangeet-themed dinner at Criollo, the wedding ceremony at Patio del Huaje, and a reception at Jardín Etnobotánico. Collaborating with wedding planner Lupita Tirado from Mexico City and the non-profit Cosa Buena, they sourced local textiles, pottery, and mezcal. Poppy donned a Vivienne Westwood Nova Cocotte gown for the ceremony and later switched to a crimson sari from Matsya, while Ajay wore a custom tuxedo from High Society. The ceremony included Hindu rituals, officiated by Poppy's cousins, and entertainment featured sitar and tabla musicians, a brass band, and DJ Charles Moon, with desserts by Maria Amaria offering Indian-inspired sweets.
