Poppy Jones Presents 'Frozen Sun' at Towner Eastbourne

exhibition · 2026-05-17

Poppy Jones's solo exhibition 'Frozen Sun' at Towner Eastbourne runs until 31 May 2026. The show features her signature still lifes on repurposed textiles, alongside new larger works. Jones began this body of work after becoming a mother in 2020, inspired by Sally Mann's autobiography. Influences include Sonia Delaunay's textiles, André Kertész's photographs, and Richard Hamilton's printmaking. Local inspirations are Charleston House in Lewes and Derek Jarman's memoir 'Modern Nature'. Subjects range from clothing and reading lamps to fruits and cut flowers, exploring memory and time. Each piece combines photography, lithography, and watercolour on found fabrics like cotton, silk, and suede. Works such as 'White Tulips (Friday)' and 'Last Days' (2023) show fingerprints resembling touchscreen smudges, referencing digital image sharing. Jones is the third artist in Towner's free solo exhibition series supported by the Towner Emerging Artist Fund, curated by Noelle Collins.
