Pop Art Masterpieces from Guggenheim Collection on View in Bilbao

From February to September 15, 2024, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao will host 'Signs and Objects: Pop Art from the Guggenheim Collection', overseen by curators Lauren Hinkson and Joan Young. This exhibition showcases 40 pieces from the Guggenheim collection, revisiting the 1963 exhibition 'Six Painters and the Object', which was curated by Lawrence Alloway, the individual who introduced the term 'Pop Art' in 1958. Featured artists include Robert Rauschenberg, Jim Dine, Roy Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist, and Andy Warhol, with Jasper Johns notably absent. Key pieces consist of Maurizio Cattelan's 'Daddy, Daddy', Warhol's 'Disasters', and Claes Oldenburg's soft sculpture, while also examining Pop's neodadaist influences, including works by Chryssa, Josephine Meckseper, and Douglas Gordon, though it has faced criticism for its narrow focus.
