Pontormo's 'Visitazione' travels to US for fundraising restoration campaign

A crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo is raising funds for the restoration of the Chiesa della Visitazione in Carmignano, home to Pontormo's 'Visitazione'. Donors of $500 receive a guided tour in Florence, while $350 donors get a visit with the curator at the Morgan Library in New York or the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. The painting, considered a seminal Mannerist work, is on loan to these US institutions for the double exhibition 'Miraculous Encounters'. The loan itself is part of broader efforts to renovate the church and monastery of San Michele Arcangelo. The exhibition at the Morgan Library runs until January 6, and at the Getty Museum from February 5 to April 28, 2019. Curated by Bruce Edelstein and Davide Gasparotto, the show includes other works such as 'Portrait of a Young Man with a Red Hat'. This marks the first time the 'Visitazione' has been exhibited outside Italy.
