Pompidou Center's elles@centrepompidou Exhibition Showcases 500 Works by Women Artists

exhibition · 2026-04-22

From May 27, 2010, until February 21, 2011, the Centre Pompidou in Paris presented elles@centrepompidou, which featured approximately 500 pieces by more than 800 female artists from the Musée National d'Art Moderne. Curated by Camille Moreau, the exhibition was divided into nine thematic sections: 'Pioneering Women,' 'Fire at Will,' 'The Body Slogan,' 'Eccentric Abstraction,' 'A Room of One's Own,' 'Words at Work,' 'Immaterials,' 'elles@design,' and 'Architecture and Feminism?' Notable artists included Cindy Sherman, Sonia Delaunay, and Louise Bourgeois. The exhibition examined the history of feminist art and challenged the significance of gender representation, with Moreau's goal being to illustrate 'a good history of twentieth-century art' where gender differences are less emphasized.
