Pompeii Treasures Travel to Tokyo National Museum

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Tokyo National Museum hosts 'Pompeii', the largest exhibition promoted in Japan post-Covid, featuring 160 artifacts from the MANN – National Archaeological Museum of Naples. Organized for the museum's 150th anniversary, the show reconstructs life in the ancient Vesuvian cities. It will later travel to Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art, Kyushu National Museum, and other venues in Kyoto, Miyagi, and Fukuoka prefectures. The exhibition is organized by The Asahi Shimbun, NHK, and NHK Promotions Inc, and is part of the international relations of MANN and the Archaeological Park of Pompeii. MANN director Paolo Giulierini stated that the show, two years in the making, may be the most important cultural initiative between Japan and Italy, highlighting the synergy between MANN and the Archaeological Park of Pompeii as emblematic of Italian archaeology's strength.
