Pompeii Commitment Brings Experimental Contemporary Art to Ancient Site
The Materie Archeologiche initiative, an innovative multidisciplinary program launched by the Parco Archeologico di Pompei, is set to expand its horizons with its 2024 offerings. Established in 2020 by Massimo Osanna and Andrea Viliani, and overseen since 2021 by director Gabriel Zuchtriegel, this project merges contemporary art with archaeological heritage. The upcoming year will feature new contributions for the Collectio from artists such as Marzia Migliora, Otobong Nkanga, Amie Siegel, and Cerith Wyn Evans, alongside a second round of Digital Fellowships with participants including Sophia Al-Maria and Jennifer Allora & Guillermo Calzadilla. Previous fellows like Anri Sala and Sissel Tolaas have utilized cutting-edge technology and sensory exploration. The program aspires to transform Pompeii into a vibrant research hub, highlighting its ongoing significance. Future collaborations with Fondazione Donnaregina and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudenga, along with exhibitions at Museo Madre in Naples, are also in the works under director Eva Fabbri.
