Pompeii Archaeological Park to Open Vineyard and Winery for Wine Production

The Archaeological Park of Pompeii has partnered with the Tenute Capaldo Group, owner of Feudi di San Gregorio and Basilisco, to create a winery within the ancient site. The project will establish an archaeological vineyard spanning over 6 hectares, using existing vines and ancient agronomic techniques on volcanic soils. The winery will include vinification and aging facilities, aiming to produce quality wines that express the territory. The initiative is part of a broader agro-archaeological project that also includes olive cultivation and social farming. The vineyard will be organic, managed by agronomist Pierpaolo Sirch. Scientific collaboration involves Professor Attilio Scienza from the University of Milan, who previously worked on restoring Leonardo's vineyard at the Casa degli Atellani. Park director Gabriel Zuchtriegel stated that the project integrates viticulture into the visitor experience, while Antonio Capaldo emphasized the cultural and non-speculative approach. The partnership is a public-private model aimed at enhancing natural heritage and promoting quality tourism.
