Polish Op-Art Pioneer Wojciech Fangor Dies at 92

Wojciech Fangor, the Warsaw-born artist who developed a distinctive Polish variant of op-art, passed away at age 92. He created compositions featuring simple shapes, whirls, and waves with bright colors and blurred edges. His work explored both two-dimensional and three-dimensional space through installations that invited viewer interaction. Fangor lived in Berlin and the UK before relocating to the United States. In 1970, he had a solo exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum. He returned to Poland in 1999. A significant solo show focusing on his 1960s and 1970s work was held at de Pury de Pury in London in late 2014.
