Polignano a Mare Celebrates Pino Pascali's 90th Birthday with New Exhibition
On October 19, 2025, the Fondazione Pino Pascali in Polignano a Mare opens the exhibition "Pino Pascali. Dal 1956 ad oggi" on what would have been the artist's 90th birthday. Pascali died in August 1968 at age 32. Curator Antonio Frugis wrote an open letter to the artist for Artribune, reflecting on Pascali's connection to the sea, his role in Arte Povera, and his 1968 Venice Biennale award. The exhibition follows recent shows at Fondazione Prada in Milan and in Paris with Arte Povera, and a project in Bari with Scialoja and Osaka for Expo. Frugis, also from Polignano, recalls Pascali's words to critic Carla Lonzi about his love for the sea. Pascali created works like "Mare" (1966) and "Pozzanghere," anticipating Arte Povera. His first solo show was at Galleria La Tartaruga in Rome, run by Plinio De Martiis, later repeated at Galleria Sperone in Turin with works like "Armi" (cannons, missiles). At the 1968 Venice Biennale, he was awarded best sculptor.
