Polaroid Reclaims Waste for Limited Edition Purple 600 Film
Polaroid has launched a limited-edition Purple 600 Film as part of its Reclaimed Series, giving waste a second life by using reclaimed materials from its factory in the Netherlands. The film was developed by chemist Brian Slaghuis, who previously accidentally discovered the Blue 600 Film in 2023 after testing over 200 chemicals. The new purple film combines Blue 600 Film chemistry with Acid Red dye, producing monochromatic purple photos with a glossy finish, ISO 640 rating, and 10-15 minute development time. It works with Polaroid 600 Series and i-Type cameras, and each pack contains eight exposures priced at $18.99. The film is available exclusively to Polaroid members and for preorder at B&H. Analog Cafe founder Dmitri reviewed the film, calling it creatively and technically fascinating, noting that highlights appear nearly red while midtones and shadows are bluer. The previous Blue 600 Film is now scarce, with sealed packs selling for hundreds of dollars online.
