cultural-heritage · 2026-04-20

Poland's government intends to dismantle and relocate approximately 500 Soviet monuments, as announced by Lukasz Kaminsky, head of the Institute of National Remembrance. Kaminsky, whose organization probes crimes against the Polish nation, believes these monuments should have been taken down in the early 1990s. The monuments will be moved to museums, but the graves of Soviet soldiers in Poland will remain maintained. Russia strongly opposes the removal plans. The Moscow Times reported the story on April 6, 2016.
