Poland Detains Russian Accused of Plotting to Kill Ukrainian-American

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Thursday that Poland had arrested a Russian man hired by Moscow to assassinate a Ukrainian-American citizen in Warsaw. The suspect was detained on August 7, and Tusk credited the Internal Security Agency and police for preventing the attack at the last minute. Tusk described the target as someone 'inconvenient to the Putin regime,' but did not disclose further identity details. The Russian embassy in Warsaw did not respond to requests for comment. Moscow has routinely dismissed such accusations as Western anti-Russian paranoia. Poland's role as a key transit hub for military and humanitarian supplies to neighboring Ukraine has made it a frequent target of Russian espionage activities, according to Polish authorities.
