Pol Taburet on Faery Tales, Fascism, and Villa Medici Debut

Pol Taburet, a French artist of Guadeloupean descent, discusses his upcoming debut solo exhibition at Villa Medici in Rome in May 2026, his collaboration with Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never) on the video for 'Cherry Blue', and his nomination for the Dorothea von Stetten-Kunst prize at Kunstmuseum Bonn. Taburet's work draws from childhood faery tales, Guadeloupean superstitions, music videos, and fascist iconography. He is also working on a live orchestra commission at Bourse de Commerce's La Rotonde, featuring Alice Coltrane and Edward Skeletrix. Taburet's practice spans painting, sculpture, and animation, exploring ambiguity, mystery, and collective trauma. His recent exhibition 'The Burden of Papa Tonnerre' at Schinkel Pavillon (March 2025) introduced a more silent, meditative approach. Taburet's mother, a figurative painter, influenced his classical approach, while his father, a psychoanalyst, encouraged his creativity.
