Pokémon-themed airport to open in Japan for earthquake recovery

Noto Satoyama Airport in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, will reopen in July 2025 as a Pokémon-themed attraction to boost tourism following a devastating earthquake in 2024. The airport, which suffered damage from the magnitude 7.6 earthquake on January 1, 2024, will feature Pokémon characters throughout its terminal, including a play area and themed decorations. The initiative is part of a broader recovery effort to attract visitors back to the region, which saw a sharp decline in tourism after the disaster. The airport's transformation is a collaboration between the Ishikawa Prefectural Government and The Pokémon Company. The project aims to leverage the global popularity of Pokémon to revive local tourism and support economic recovery.
