Poggi, Historic Rome Art Supply Store, Opens Third Location with Expansion Plans
Poggi, Rome's historic art supply store founded in 1825 by Gaspare Poggi, is tripling its presence with a new location opening November 16 at Via di Ripetta 23/24, near the Accademia di Belle Arti. The store, which has served artists from Giorgio de Chirico to Mario Schifano and Piero Dorazio, adds to existing sites at Via del Gesù near the Pantheon and in Trastevere. Giampiero Poggi, descendant of the founder, states the goal is to blend ancient tradition of the 'mastro coloraio' (master color maker) with innovations in artistic techniques. Mimmo Mancini, who has worked at Poggi since the 1960s, continues to advise artists on materials and techniques. The opening coincides with the launch of a new exhibition activity and a national expansion plan starting in 2018, according to Claudio Rigamonti. The brand previously ran the 'Arte per Poggi' prize from 2012 to 2017. The November 16 event is organized by La Girouette.
