Poetronicart startup merges art, science, and economy in digital platform

digital · 2026-05-05

A new startup called Poetronicart has launched in Rome, aiming to integrate economic and scientific principles into the cultural sector. The platform, presented at Mercato Nomentano, is named after Gianni Toti, a journalist, poet, and artist who coined the term "poetronica" in the 1980s by blending poetry and electronics. Poetronicart is a digital marketplace (www.poetronicart.com) where cultural professionals—gallerists, collectors, curators, scholars—can connect with investors and each other to develop projects and generate income. The startup was founded by Pia Abelli Toti, president of La Casa Totiana, and Giovanni Abelli, an experienced startup manager and advocate of the creative economy. One of its first projects is the augmented reality book "Le Cartaviglie," to be published by Rubbettino for the tenth anniversary of Gianni Toti's death, currently crowdfunding on Produzioni dal Basso. Project manager Silvia Moretti states that the initiative challenges Italy's resistance to viewing culture as a source of profit, treating art as a sector capable of generating value within a contemporary economic framework.
