Pocketbook Hudson Hotel Opens with Art-Filled Spa in Restored Factory

architecture-design · 2026-04-29

Hudson's Pocketbook Hotel, a 46-room establishment housed in a repurposed 19th-century pocketbook factory, welcomed guests in October 2024. Crafted by Charlap Hyman & Herrero, the hotel showcases modern art, sculptural lighting, and mirrors resembling lava. Its restaurant, Ambos, specializes in New Argentinian dishes. A highlight is The Baths, a 6,000-square-foot spa set to open for day visitors in May 2025. The spa, conceptualized by an in-house team led by Nancy Kim, including Caitlin Baidia, Mary Keena Frisbee, and WangShui, draws design inspiration from the 7132 Hotel in Switzerland, Fosso Bianco in Italy, and Iceland's Blue Lagoon. It features three pools: a 100-degree saltwater pool (using Amagansett sea salt), a 104-degree jet pool, and a 55-degree cold plunge. The space is enhanced by custom rubber stools from Rich Aybar and a crystal sculpture by Stephanie Shiu. Wellness director Remy Maelen of Goodwitch emphasizes the spa's focus on thermal water's healing effects and relational wellness. Hudson Valley locals can enjoy community days with half-price day passes at $30. Additionally, the hotel includes shops like Kasuri, offering brands such as Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto, and Comme des Garçons. Sean Roland is among the owners.
