Poblenou's 29 Chimneys and a Tower: 50 Years of Archival Memory
The Arxiu Històric del Poblenou marks its 50th anniversary with the exhibition 'Vint-i-nou xemeneies i una torre,' curated by Xavi Acarín. This event, part of Barcelona Capital Mundial de la Arquitectura, runs from May 8, 2025, until December 2026, and emphasizes Poblenou's industrial heritage. The exhibition showcases 29 remaining chimneys from a total of over 200, set against a backdrop of urban redevelopment. Displays at the Torre de les Aigües del Besòs focus on the social history of factories and efforts to preserve them. Featured artists include Joan Benàssar, Violeta Mayoral, PIÑA, and Eulàlia Rovira. The project concludes at Palo Alto with a show by BAU Master's students. On December 11, the book 'Vint-i-nou xemeneies i una torre' will be released, and Benàssar's time capsule will be sealed, set to reopen in 2043.
