Plug-in solar panels to hit UK stores by end of summer

Before summer concludes, the UK government plans to introduce plug-in solar panels in retail outlets. These affordable panels can be easily connected to mains sockets and installed on balconies or rooftops. This initiative follows a March announcement and new safety regulations that will take effect on 27th August, enabling households to produce their own electricity and lower their energy bills. Lorna Wallace-Smith from EcoFlow described this as "a major win for households." Under the Starmer Labour government, the effort seeks to lessen dependence on fossil fuels amid escalating energy prices. Additionally, new regulations for the Future Homes Standard, starting next March, will mandate low-carbon heating and solar panels in most new residences, potentially saving families up to £830 each year.
