Plessi Museum at Brenner Pass partners with Museion for border-themed exhibition
The Plessi Museum, dedicated to artist Fabrizio Plessi, opened in 2013 at the Brenner Pass on the former customs area between Italy and Austria. Designed by engineer Carlo Costa and promoted by Autostrada del Brennero SpA, the museum spans 13,000 sqm with an investment of over €8 million. Its glass-walled structure integrates with the landscape, housing a permanent exhibition of Plessi's works including a large installation from the 2000 Hanover Expo celebrating the Euregio project. Now, in collaboration with Museion in Bolzano, the museum presents "E se l'orizzonte non fosse il confine?" (What if the horizon were not the border?), a project by Nicolò Degiorgis. The exhibition features Degiorgis's video "My head under water but still breath fine," filmed during a crossing of the English Channel between Calais and Dover, addressing migration and borders. Postcards invite visitors to respond to the titular question, with answers collected for a September exhibition at Museion. Concurrently, Degiorgis's artist book "blue as gold" is displayed at Museion Passage, using migrant boat images from the internet with geolocation removed. The collaboration initiates a series of exhibitions on crossing and borders at the Plessi Museum.
