Please do not enter: a progressive men's luxury retail and exhibition space in Los Angeles

architecture-design · 2026-05-05

In 2014, Please do not enter opened on the top floor of the PacMutua Building at 523 West 6th Street in Los Angeles, a few hundred meters from the Santa Monica pier and Promenade. Described as a progressive men's luxury retail and exhibition space, it is neither a gallery nor a retail store but a destination. Founded by Frenchmen Nicolas Libert, owner of an elite real estate agency, and Emmanuel Renoird, a noted interior designer, the penthouse is a refuge where Santa Monica's invasive light filters carefully onto perfect objects. Sales are presented as a non-obligatory but compulsively necessary act to protect items from others' appropriation. The space features contemporary art, design, fashion, accessories, perfumes, essences, jewelry, electronics, and art books. Notable works include those by Arik Levy, Vincent Lamouroux, Grégoire Cheneau, Slava Mogutin, Brian Kenny, Valentin Loellmann, Elise Gabriel, and OS&OS, as well as couturiers Walter van Beirendonck, Jean Paul Knott, 22/4, Gaspard Yurkevich, and Misericordia. Limited edition and unique items are highlighted, such as Guillaume Bardet's 'L'Usage des jours' series of vases, tables, stools, trays, and containers, and 'Da Vetro,' a selection of twenty-two fragile vases designed by seven young designers from around the world, created during a residency at Fabrica directed by Sam Baron.
