Platea Prize for New Italian Playwriting Launches with Einaudi Publication

The Fondazione Platea has announced the Platea Prize for new Italian dramaturgy, aimed at contemporary playwrights who engage with a complex and contradictory world through language that generates stage action. The winning unpublished, never-performed text in Italian will receive a prestigious co-production between Italy's National Theaters and Theaters of Relevant Cultural Interest, plus publication by Giulio Einaudi Editore in its Collezione di teatro series. The prize is promoted by Fondazione per l'Arte Teatrale Platea in collaboration with Einaudi and A.N.A.R.T. (Associazione Nazionale Attività Regionali Teatrali), with support from Compagnia di San Paolo. The winning play will be staged during the 2017-2018 season and subsequently programmed in Fondazione Platea theaters and regional circuits affiliated with A.N.A.R.T. Submissions are open to authors of any nationality aged 18 or older, with entries due by September 16. The prize views contemporary dramaturgical production as a primary tool for Italy's cultural growth.
