PLARTWO: New Plastic Museum Opens in Turin with TOdays Festival Debut
The Fondazione Plart of Naples is expanding to Turin with PLARTWO, a new center for art, innovation, and research dedicated to plastic materials. The space, a former carpet factory from the early 1900s located in via Cigna next to the Museo Ettore Fico, will debut during the fourth edition of TOdays Festival from August 24 to 26, 2018. The festival, which attracted over 30,000 visitors in 2017, takes place in the Barriera di Milano district and blends music and visual arts. Artistic director Gianluca Gozzi described it as an event that "wants to transcend genres." The festival's lineup includes Echo & Bunnymen, Mouse on Mars, My Bloody Valentine, and Editors at venues sPazio 211 and ex Incet, while educational activities ToLab will be held at Arca Studios and Galleria Gagliardi e Domke, featuring an immersive audiovisual experience by Uochi Toki. PLARTWO, designed by architect Alex Cepernich, will house 200 to 300 works from Maria Pia Incutti's collection of 2,000 pieces, including anonymous design objects, everyday items, and works by contemporary designers and artists. The space will also feature artist residencies, events promoting design and art across architecture, photography, fashion, and lifestyle, a shop, and a production area for innovative startups. TOdays Festival will be the first public event in the "work in progress" space, which is expected to become fully operational in about a year.
