PlantCam Launches $150 Timelapse Camera for Monitoring Plant Growth

Yannik's startup, PlantCam, has launched an innovative compact camera and app aimed at tracking plant growth. Priced at $150, the camera secures to a window using a suction cup and automatically takes photos at predetermined intervals, sending them to the cloud via Wi-Fi. Users can generate timelapse videos through the PlantCam app, which incorporates AI for image enhancement and frame interpolation. The device boasts a 5-megapixel sensor that captures images at 2560×1920 pixels and offers two lens choices: a 100-degree wide-angle for expansive views and a 65-degree zoom for detailed shots. Measuring 1.8×2.0×1.3 inches and weighing 1.1 ounces, it operates indoors in humid conditions but is not weather-resistant. Privacy is ensured, as images are accessible only through the user's account. Yannik developed PlantCam after losing two of his four houseplants in a new apartment, aiming to monitor them remotely. The company provides cloud storage subscriptions, and the app is compatible with both iOS and Android. Each package includes the camera, a suction cup mount, and a 3-meter USB-C cable (power adapter sold separately).
