Planeta Winery's Seventh Edition of Nomadic Artist Residency at Palermo's Museo Salinas

The seventh edition of Planeta winery's cultural initiative, which has supported contemporary art for fifteen years, culminates in an exhibition at Palermo's Museo Salinas. The museum, long closed for renovations and still only partially accessible, has remained active under director Francesca Spatafora and communications officer Sandro Garrubbo. Its reorganized collection abandons typological arrangement for contextual displays, highlighting early donations from Giuseppe Emanuele Ventimiglia (1814), the metopes of Selinunte temples, Girolamo Valenza's 4,000-volume library, and the Palermo Stone. Curated by Valentina Bruschi, the exhibition 'Mappe e miti del Mediterraneo' explores themes of migration and historical perspective. Artists include Marianna Christofides, whose video 'Here Let Me Stand' critiques archaeological discovery narratives; Gabriella Ciancimino, who engages with the museum's Baroque maps by Vincenzo Maria Coronelli; Pietro Ruffo, whose paper globe reflects on subjective cartography; Malak Helmy, with sound installation and toxic-colored salt rock sculptures; Andrea Mania, presenting personal microhistories; and Luca Trevisani, who incorporates a palm leaf from Egypt to Sicily and cyanotypes of the inaccessible Addaura cave engravings. The accompanying publication features photographs by Leonardo Scotti, a text by Gianluigi Ricuperati, and an additional project by Helmy mapping global parks.
