Planet B: Bourriaud Curates Climate Crisis Exhibition at Palazzo Bollani

Nicolas Bourriaud's exhibition 'Planet B' at Palazzo Bollani in Venice, running concurrently with the Biennale until June 26, 2022, addresses the climate crisis through a 'propositive' lens. The show is divided into three chapters that will evolve over time. The first chapter, 'Toute exposition est une forêt,' focuses on 'the takeover of organic and chemical phenomena over human societies' and 'the humanization of the vegetal.' The installation is organic, with works visually intersecting in the first room, anchored by a large mural by Haegue Yang. Notable artists include Bianca Bondi with chemical archeologies of the future, Max Hooper Schneider with sculptural-vegetal mutations, Lucia Pizzani with image montages, Roberto Cabot with painting, Kendell Geers, Anna Bella Geiger, and Nicolas Uriburu as a precursor. The second chapter, 'Charles Darwin et les récifs coralliens' (July 8–August 26), will feature examples of 'patient and meticulous constructions' by artists, emphasizing long duration as a contemporary form of grandeur. The third chapter, 'La fin tragique de l’île Nauru' (September 8–November 27), will directly confront the idea of climate catastrophe, likely shifting toward less reassuring scenarios. The overarching concept is the sublime, a classical aesthetic category combining fear and attraction.
