Plan Mode for Spreadsheet Agents: User Study Shows Improved Perception

ai-technology · 2026-07-30

A study from arXiv (2607.23670) evaluates a Plan Mode feature for spreadsheet programming agents. Researchers built a prototype and tested it against a non-planning baseline in a within-subjects user study with 24 participants. Results showed that while task outcomes were similar, Plan Mode led to reduced refinement and better user perception in creativity support and human-machine collaboration. The paper discusses implications for future design of plan-based interfaces in end-user programming environments.
