Pistoletto's Terzo Paradiso lands in Catania and Noto

artist · 2026-05-04

In June 2019, Michelangelo Pistoletto executed two performances of his Terzo Paradiso initiative: one at the Port of Catania and the other near Noto. The event in Catania showcased a 100-meter hawser filled with plastics gathered by volunteers on May 25, with support from the Coast Guard, Port Authority, and environmental organizations. Meanwhile, the Noto performance illustrated the infinity symbol among ancient 'rusello' wheat at Zahir Countryhouse, organized by Fondazione OELLE Mediterraneo Antico, under the leadership of Ornella Laneri and direction of Carmelo Nicosia. Pistoletto developed Terzo Paradiso in 2003 and first unveiled it at the 2005 Venice Biennale; it has since been replicated 1,112 times worldwide, with patronage from Italy's Ministry of Environment.
